David Sims
David Sims was a distance freestyle swimmer and a Pac-10 Conference champion at Stanford University and was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team. Twenty-seven years after Congress authorized President Jimmy Carter to present a congressional medal to the 461 athletes of the 1980 US Olympic Team – Sims ensured his fellow team members were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation’s highest civilian award bestowed by the U.S. Congress. David Sims is a founding Principal of Lodging Capital Partners LLC, a Chicago-based lodging investment firm that owns and manages assets for seven upscale and luxury hotels and resorts, including the Drake Hotel Chicago. Sims was a founding officer of Strategic Hotel Capital, one of the country’s largest publicly traded real estate investment trusts, and he held positions in real estate investment banking in both Chicago and New York.
